Doug on a Level Two break
According to Doug, breaks while hiking come in four levels:
- Level Zero: Pause along the trail and enjoy the
scenery, catch your breath, take a picture, etc.
- Level One: Take your pack off and rest for a few
minutes.
- Level Two: A Level One that you eat something at.
Doug's GORP was peanuts and M&Ms (GOMP?); mine was a Costco
"dried fruit medley" infused with chocolate chips.
- Level Three: A Level One but you take your boots
off (usually at camp).
We're about a mile and a half into our hike, having just forded the Middle
Fork Stony Creek. Doug's still smiling because he doesn't yet know what
lies ahead (hint: it's a hill).
