Here's my room. It's little bigger than the bed + walking area. Probably about 12'x12'. Certainly, it feels small by American standards. I'm standing in a little foyer; to my right is the bathroom. The pile on the desk next to the TV is my treasures from my adventures on the past week.
Note the dials on the nightstand beneath the phone (just right of center in the picture). The dial on the left controls the radio volume; four buttons select which of four preset stations to listen to. The buttons in the center control the air conditioning (which, by the way, is likely the cause of my lost voice during my stay). The knob and switches on the right control the lights in the room. There's another knob labeled 'bed' on the night stand on the right side of the bed (not shown in this picture). I tried turning it on and off, but with no apparent effect. I'll bet it's an electric blanket, though I certainly didn't want to heat up the place just to find out.
